About Dona

As a certified sex therapist and nurse practitioner, my desire is to infuse knowledge and understanding regarding sexual health to all individuals-whether it is a college student, menopausal woman or pre-teen with questions. Because often times “the truth about sex” can be tough to discern.

After practicing in sex therapy for more than 20 years, I found it apparent that women need a book that addresses the physical, emotional and sexual effects of menopause. Currently, very few publications go in depth to expose the issues of sexuality during this transition of a woman’s life. My recently published book, Managing Menopause Beautifully: Physically, Emotionally, and Sexually does just that. In my private psychotherapy practice I have been priviledged to help women understand their sexual identity, repair the weakened areas and intensify the connection with their partner. It became evident that putting these strategies into writing could reach even more individuals. And possibly move the topic of menopause from being a “taboo” or embarassing subject into a new arena of understanding. My hope is today’s mother will be better prepared to educate the seasoned women of tomorrow!

We are not women wearing one hat, but many. Several years ago, as a mother of a curious 8-year-old son, I found I did not have all the age appropriate answers to his sexual questions. Yes, even as a credentialed sex therapist. My search for “the book” to aid my discussions with Ben came up empty- so we wrote one together, When Benjamin Wants to Know: Family Conversations About the Facts of Life. Ben’s book focuses on the many provocative questions a pre-adolescent (age 8 to 12) will ask and presents information an “askable” parent can deliver with comfort.

Let me assure you, this understanding of sexual health, menopause awareness and ensuring a dynamic connection for couples was not an overnight happening. My early days in critical care and emergency nursing left me unprepared for the unique communication skills patients need at those critical junctions of life and death. After working as a critical care nurse, I decided that a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing was the next frontier and that led to private practice and the opportunity to touch so many lives over the past 30 years.

I hope you enjoy this web site and will come back often for news, scientific information, pearls of wisdom to enhance your relationship with your partner and those many menopausal questions. In addition, you can check out the product of the month and order one for yourself and let your friends know what they are missing.
Come back often!
